Design
My aim when designing Wedding.com.au was to create a stylish and sophisticated wedding site. While women will definitely be the main users of the website, I did not want to make the website look too girly or cheesy. So to achieve this I went with rich and indulgent dark reds/pinks, and warm browns/tans. I then used category images featuring some beautiful wedding photography to add in some more colour and vibrancy.
The site features a large amount of imagery, so to keep the site from looking too busy I made the header and footer full browser width then left the content area crisp white. The content, images and elements then create the boundaries of the website while keep it nice and clean.
Development
I coded the XHTML and CSS for the website using EditPlus. The site is comprised of a header, footer and a 2 column layout. The navigation and drop-down menu has been made using CSS, unordered lists and a small amount of javascript.
